Hey All,

I’m releasing a nu line of stuff nxt week on Cyber Monday over at Arcangel Surfware. Press release below.

Designed by Cory Arcangel in partnership with Bravado, the global music merchandising company, the Arcangel Surfware 2015 “Fuck Negativity” collection consists of dog tags, a limited edition trench coat, lighters, “brah” style sliders, and – what are now considered the brand’s trademarks – loose fitting sweats and hoodies.

All items are inspired by Arcangel’s iconic 2014 sculptural work, Going Negative / Lakes. The work – part of the artist’s “Lakes” series – is a sculpture consisting of a flat-screen television turned on its side displaying the phrase “FUCK NEGATIVITY”. The phrase has been mirrored by the Java applet “lake,” which creates a shimmering, seemingly liquid reflection along a horizontal axis.

Somewhere between suburban mall goth and self-help, the line is aimed towards content creators of all ages. Items from the line will be debuted on Cyber Monday, November 30th, 2015, on Arcangel Surfware dot com, with additional items released throughout December.

When asked to comment, Arcangel added, “This new line represents a leap forward for the brand. The bright colors might be gone, but what definitely remains is the positive attitude. I wanted to make a line of ‘inspirational’ products for today’s gravers – mal(l)ware so to speak. I was thinking of all the former MySpace ’scene’ enthusiasts who now work at – perhaps – startups. Maybe Aeron chairs are involved. I’m not sure. Anyway, this line is for them. In conclusion … life is nothing but a never ending up-hill battle. It’s important to keep your head up and moving forward. Gotta stay on it. Let’s do this. FUCK NEGATIVITY.”

The price point for items in the Arcangel Surfware FUCK NEGATIVITY collection range from $4.95 – $199.95.

Launched in 2014, Arcangel Surfware is a merchandise and publishing imprint created and designed by fine artist Cory Arcangel. The project was recently called “a lifestyle brand, of sorts” byArtspace and “an undergrad’s dream” by W magazine. As Fast Company noted, “Sure, Arcangel Surfware sounds bizarre, but stranger things have existed … so let’s see how this goes.”

Cory Arcangel is a Brooklyn-based fine artist (b. 1978, Buffalo, NY) who makes work in a wide range of media, including composition, video, modified video games, performance, and the Internet. Recent exhibitions include: “Be the first of your friends” at Espace Louis Vuitton München, Munich, Germany (2015), & “This is all so crazy, everybody seems so famous” at Galleria d‘Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Bergamo (2015).
