Contemplating The Void

guggenheim_void

The Guggenheim has a show up right now called “Contemplating The Void” where they have solicited proposals from 200(ish) different artists / designers / etc, etc, etc as to what they would do in the spiral if they had a chance. Check the web version of the show here. I submitted a proposal. My proposal wasn’t so much to to do something in the spiral, but more to research a bit about its renovation. My submitted text read:

I would like to work with the contractors involved in the renovation to produce a publication detailing the issues they found with the original building (cracks, shifting, etc, etc) and technologies used to address these in the renovation.

Usually when I’m asked to do site specific proposals like this I always over think it and end up with something stupid. Anyway, much to my surprise, I would actually like to realize this idea one day 1 Over at http://www.forconstructionpros.com/ there is an interesting article which deals with a bit of the things I would like to explore more. For example apparently, “the renovation team set out to map every visible crack in the museum wall.” Awesome, Id love to see that spreadsheet! ps – My crude imagined rendering is above.

  1. This doesn’t mean the idea isn’t stupid to a general public, in fact it might very well be, but this more specifically means for the time being, I don’t think it is.
